Take care of information and recognize pressures online.
Reserve sensitive information
Do not share passwords, verification codes, documents or financial data in a conversation. Check a link before entering information. A compelling photo or story alone does not confirm someone's identity. You can keep the exchange on the channel you have chosen and stop it if doubts arise.
Recognize imposed emergencies
Be wary of requests for money, investments or payments to show affection, resolve an emergency or unblock a supposed meeting. Do not transfer funds under pressure. Previous gifts do not justify new demands. If someone tries to isolate you from people you trust or asks you to keep a request secret, reconsider contact.
Act without shame
Use the blocking or reporting options available for suspicious behavior. If you have shared money or data, contact the appropriate service or your financial institution where appropriate. Keep the information you need to ask for help. Do not accept new payments from someone who promises to recover what was lost in exchange for another transfer.
