Distance, expectations and connections that evolve
Talk about what is possible without imposed promises.
Distinguish desires and agreements
Talk about what relationship you want and what time you can dedicate to it. A long-distance conversation can be valuable without involving travel, exclusivity or cohabitation plans. Do not present an idea for the future as a commitment already made. Each step needs a current decision from both parties and room to change their minds.
Maintain autonomy
Do not make payments or send documents to someone you have just met to organize supposed procedures or trips. Keep your supports and your personal decisions. Affection does not require giving up friendships or activities. If a plan depends on pressure or urgency, you can stop it and ask for time to consider it.
Review how you feel
Ask if the contact rhythm is still comfortable. Needs can change without anyone doing anything wrong. Agree on breaks or goodbyes respectfully and maintain the privacy of what is shared. A connection does not need to continue out of obligation: clearly recognizing what each person wants helps them choose freely.
